ken-wellsI just got a great email from my long time friend Ken Wells. He was sharing back to me a quote I said when we worked together and it still holds true to this day. Below is his email:

Every once in a while, I’ll get confused with all the stuff I have going on at work when I’m looking at my two giant screens and have seven projects open. And I have this funny memory of you talking.

“Ken, sometimes, you just need to turn all that crap off and restart the computer.” – Will Weyer

Thanks for the memories. Ken

Honestly, it is important to just walk away now and then. It’s easy to become overwhelmed with all the things you are supposed to get done – let alone all the different ways you could creatively solve things – often your brain can just race along with ‘what if’ scenarios but no action is being taken. The method to break this is simple: Get up. Walk away. – That’s it.

Changing your environment from sitting to standing or going into another room does wonders for your brain waves and allows things to reset and then refocus on the tasks in a more deliberate fashion. The take away here is a fun one to practice ‘turn all that crap off.’
